Onboarding wizard
The onboarding wizard helps you get set up quickly when you first log in.
Organization setup
The first onboarding step collects only your legal name — the name you'd want to appear on LTB documents. Your organization's address, email, and phone aren't collected here; set those later in Settings if you want them on file (the property address you enter in the next step belongs to the property, not your organization).
Use your legal name as it would appear on LTB documents. This information appears on generated notices and leases.
Choose your setup path
The Welcome step offers two entry points (plus a skip option) — not four separate guided paths:
1. Get Started (recommended)
Walks you through Property → Unit → Tenant → Lease creation from scratch.
- Enter property details (address, units)
- Enter tenant information
- Set lease terms (rent, dates, etc.)
If you create the lease with an Active status (start date in the past or today), OntarioLandlord automatically generates all rent invoices from the lease start date forward. You don't need to manually record charges for months before you joined — they'll appear in the ledger immediately.
A CASL consent-request email is also sent to the tenant at this point to capture their communication consent.
2. "I already have a lease — upload it instead"
Best for landlords with an existing, signed Ontario Standard Lease (OSL) PDF.
- Upload your signed OSL PDF
- AI extracts tenant info, rent amount, dates, and more
- Review and confirm the extracted data
- System creates property, unit, tenant, and lease automatically
Skip setup
An escape hatch if you'd rather explore the app first and set things up later.
DoorLoop import isn't a wizard path
Importing from DoorLoop is a separate, Settings-driven integration rather than a step in the onboarding wizard — connect it any time from Settings → Integrations. See DoorLoop integration for details.
Completing onboarding
After setup, the dashboard shows:
- Welcome banner with quick actions
- Getting started checklist
- Portfolio overview with key metrics
The onboarding checklist tracks your progress:
- Add your first property
- Add your first tenant
- Create your first lease
- Record your first payment
- Connect your bank account
A guided tour walks you through key features on first login.
