Uploading Ontario Standard Lease
OntarioLandlord can extract data from your signed Ontario Standard Lease (OSL) PDF, saving you time on data entry.
What is the OSL?
The Ontario Standard Lease is the mandatory lease form for most residential tenancies in Ontario. It includes standardized fields for:
- Landlord and tenant names
- Property address
- Rent amount and due date
- Lease start and end dates
- Included services and utilities
Uploading Your OSL
Step 1: Navigate to Upload
Option A: From Leases
- Go to Leases
- Click Upload OSL
Option B: During Onboarding
- Select "Upload Existing Lease" path
Step 2: Select Your File
- Click Choose File or drag and drop
- Select your signed OSL PDF
- File must be PDF format
Step 3: Wait for Processing
Our AI analyzes the document to extract:
- Landlord name and address
- Tenant name(s) and contact info
- Property address
- Unit details
- Monthly rent
- Rent due date
- Lease start and end dates
- Parking and utilities
- Additional terms
Processing typically takes 10-30 seconds.
Step 4: Review Extracted Data
You'll see all extracted fields with confidence indicators:

Step 5: Correct and Confirm
- Review each field
- Correct any errors
- Fill in any missing fields
- Click Confirm and Create
What Gets Created
When you confirm, the system creates:
- Property (if new address)
- Unit (within the property)
- Tenant(s) (one per name on lease)
- Lease (linking everything together)
Supported OSL Versions
We support all official OSL versions:
- 2018 original version
- 2020 revised version
- 2021+ current version
Tips for Best Results
Document Quality
- Use scanned PDFs (not photos)
- Ensure text is readable
- Higher resolution = better extraction
Handling Issues
If extraction misses data:
- Check if the PDF is text-based (not image-only)
- Try a cleaner scan
- Manually enter missing fields
Storing the Original
The uploaded PDF is stored and linked to the lease:
- Go to the lease detail page
- Find "Documents" section
- View or download the original OSL
Re-Processing
If you need to re-extract data:
- Navigate to the lease
- Click Re-process OSL
- Review new extraction
- Update fields as needed
Privacy & Security
- Uploaded documents are encrypted
- Stored securely in your account
- Only you can access your documents
- We don't share or analyze documents beyond extraction
