Connecting Your Bank
OntarioLandlord integrates with Plaid to securely connect to your bank account. Once connected, transactions sync automatically and are matched to your tenants.

How It Works
Your Bank → Plaid (secure) → OntarioLandlord → AI Matching → Review & Confirm
- Connect - Link your bank account via Plaid
- Sync - Transactions are pulled automatically (daily)
- Match - AI matches deposits to tenants based on amount, timing, and memo
- Review - You confirm or correct matches
- Record - Confirmed payments go to the rent ledger
Connecting Your Bank
Step 1: Go to Integrations
- Click Integrations in the sidebar
- Find the Bank Connection section
- Click Connect Bank Account
Step 2: Select Your Bank
- Plaid's secure window opens
- Search for your bank
- Select it from the list
Step 3: Log In
- Enter your online banking credentials
- Complete any 2FA verification your bank requires
- Credentials go directly to Plaid (OntarioLandlord never sees them)
Step 4: Select Account
- Choose which account receives rent payments
- Usually your chequing account
- Click Continue
Step 5: Confirmation
Once connected, you'll see:
- Bank name
- Account ending in XXXX
- Connection status: Active
- Last sync time
Security & Privacy
Your Credentials Are Safe
- OntarioLandlord never sees your banking password
- Plaid is used by thousands of apps (Venmo, Acorns, etc.)
- Connection uses bank-level encryption
- You can disconnect anytime

Plaid supports thousands of Canadian banks including:
- TD Canada Trust
- RBC Royal Bank
- Scotiabank
- BMO Bank of Montreal
- CIBC
- National Bank
- Desjardins
- Tangerine
- Simplii Financial
- And many more...

Troubleshooting
Connection Failed
- Verify your bank credentials are correct
- Check if your bank is having an outage
- Try again in a few minutes
- Contact support if issue persists
Bank Not Listed
If your bank isn't in Plaid's list:
- Check for alternate names (e.g., "TD" vs "TD Canada Trust")
- Some credit unions may not be supported
- Contact support for alternatives
Connection Expired
Banks may require re-authentication periodically:
- Go to Integrations
- Click Reconnect on the bank card
- Log in again
Next Steps
After connecting:
- Wait for first sync (usually within minutes)
- Review payment suggestions
- Confirm matches to record payments
